As I write this entry today, I hope that the power will not unexpectedly shut off again lol, but as I put this entry there is so much happening in the areas around me. Over the weekend alot of fighting occurred which of course ended up with several people being hurt or killed. It was unfortunate that we happened to be searching channels and came upon what was happening on the news and saw a police officer get shot. I don't know why people feel they have to resort to violence as a way to solve problems and I wonder if anyone has heard of anger management. It seems to me, after living here for almost 2 years that alot of violence is the result of frustrations and people with a short fuse that are just looking for any reason to get into a shoot out. Unfortunately, this morning, and I must have been in a deep sleep since I did not hear it, but not far from where I live there was a bombing. An older woman was killed and several others injured. Here was a woman in her home minding her own business and because of the blast it knocked down the wall in her home, where she should have been safe. The tensions here seem to erupt when it's just about time for summer and I for one, along with my children, will hopefully not be here over the summer. In Tripoli there is a mass battle happening with the military and police against a group of men. Something that started out little and could have been solved very simply errupted into a major event that now has us all wondering what will happen next. We have also heard jets flying over which worries us. You see, Lebanon does not have military jets which means Israel is flying over probably checking out the events. That obviously means they are violating yet another UN Rule by being in Lebanese airspace when they are not supposed to be but you will see little happen to them, they pretty much do what they want whenever they want and the rest of the world will only see a very small side of it. Sort of like the war they started last summer killing alot of innocent civilians. It's different to read a story or see it on the news than to actually be living in the midst of it all. Fortunately for us, we are safe for now as in the heart of Beirut, rarely would they dare to cause problems. June can not come soon enough for us and I so can not wait to see my family in NY. I look forward to fishing, camping, berry picking etc. My oldest son has been drawing pictures of bowling so I look forward to taking him bowling. I will keep updating as I am able to. Right now I have to get our bags ready to travel. Lebanon is such a beautiful country and it's becoming ruined by a handful of people. I hate to see that happening over here. Well, off for now to get things ready for our holiday. Not that I won't be worried about our family here but after last summer's events, I just look forward to one summer of normalcy with my family. Hope everyone is doing great and have a wonderful day!
